Welcome to Karkhana.io, your reliable manufacturing solutions provider for the oil & gas industry. In this blog, we will provide you with a comprehensive step-by-step guide on how to properly use a manual torque wrench. As experts in flexible and scalable manufacturing, we offer a wide range of solutions to meet your specific needs.

Step 1: Selecting the Right Torque Wrench

The first step in using a manual torque wrench is selecting the right tool for the job. Consider the torque range required for your application and choose a torque wrench that covers that range. Ensure that the torque wrench is calibrated and in good working condition.

Step 2: Prepare the Fastener and Torque Wrench

Before using the torque wrench, make sure the fastener and the torque wrench are clean and free from any debris or contaminants. This will ensure accurate readings and proper engagement. Also, set the torque value on the wrench according to the manufacturer’s specifications or the recommended torque for your specific application.

Step 3: Apply the Torque

  1. Insert the appropriate socket or attachment onto the torque wrench, ensuring a secure fit.
  2. Position the wrench onto the fastener, making sure it is properly engaged.
  3. Apply force in a smooth and controlled manner to reach the desired torque value. Avoid sudden jerks or excessive force as it may result in inaccurate readings or damage to the fastener.
  4. Monitor the torque wrench’s indicator, whether it’s a dial, a click sound, or a digital display, to ensure the torque is applied within the specified range.
  5. Once the desired torque value is reached, stop applying force and release the pressure on the wrench.

Step 4: Verifying Torque

To ensure accuracy, it is recommended to verify the applied torque by using a calibrated torque measuring device. This can be done by reapplying the torque to the fastener and checking if the measured value matches the desired torque.

Step 5: Maintenance and Storage

After use, clean the torque wrench and store it in a safe and dry location. Regularly check and calibrate the wrench as per the manufacturer’s guidelines to maintain its accuracy.
